Foundry Fellowship 2026
A foundry fellowship for makers looking to refine their skills, create new work, and gain experience in an active casting workshop.
Foundry Fellowship — One-Month Programme April/May 2026
We are offering a one-month Foundry in Fellowship for an emerging or established maker with a genuine interest in metal casting and the wider foundry environment. This is an opportunity to develop your own practice while gaining hands-on experience within a working workshop.
Who We’re Looking For
Applicants should have:
An idea of what you would like to create, explore, or research during the fellowship.
Some prior experience in foundry processes, metal casting, or mould-making (this could be academic, workshop-based, or self-taught).
A willingness to assist with day-to-day workshop tasks — from preparing moulds and materials to helping maintain a safe and organised working environment.
A collaborative attitude and respect for shared studio space.
What You’ll Gain
The fellowship is designed to support makers who want to refine their technical skills and deepen their understanding of metalwork. By assisting in the workshop, you will:
Gain valuable insight into professional casting workflows.
Build confidence in a real foundry setting.
Learn problem-solving, preparation, and finishing techniques that strengthen your own practice.
What You’ll Do
During the fellowship, the fellow will:
Work on a self-directed project, with access to foundry tools, equipment, and facilities.
Support ongoing workshop activities, including mould preparation, pouring days, clean-up, and general maintenance.
Participate in discussions around process, safety, and creative development.
Practical Information
This offer is self-funded.
A letter on headed paper can be provided if needed for funding applications.
The workshop is off the beaten track, so this opportunity is best suited to someone with their own transport.
You will have full access to the workshop and facilities, but any materials used will be charged for.
Dates of access are between 1 April and 10 May. There is an expectation that you will be in the space for around 60% of this time.
